Happy Liberation Day!

April 25th is Liberation Day in Italy. It is the anniversary of the surrender of the Nazi garrisons that had occupied northern Italy from September 1943 to April 1945. The Allied armies were
putting pressure on the Nazis from the south,
but in most Italian cities they were anticipated in the final offensive by Italian resistance guerrillas (we call them Partigiani, Partisans). We freed ourselves! Though, of course, we would not have been able to do it - not within that time frame, at least - without the help of the Allies, especially the British and Americans (though Canadians, South Africans and Poles also played an important role).
On Liberation Day
we like to celebrate with big rallies, shows and concerts. We were in Milan, at Appunti Partigiani, busy making a lot of people dance.
